CONSIGNMENTS

We work together with our customers on selling brass models on consignment.

Why you should consign your model with CMT - Our Unique Abilities
We maintain a huge listing of customers, with what their interests are:  railroads, era, scale, etc.   We search through this list of customers and prepare a list of potential buyers for your model.  We then contact them via email, with details about your model, pictures, pricing, etc. and offer it to them first.  Many times the model will be sold using our unique ability.  If not sold immediately, all the details are posted on our website for the public to see.

We communicate the status of your model with an emailed Purchase Order when it is received and passed our quality testing, an emailed Purchase Order notifying you when it is sold, and an email notification when the remittance cheque is issued, 21 days after the model is sold.

Inspection by CMT
When they are received, we will inspect and test brass models for running performance, lights, paint quality and likewise examine the artwork. If needed, a lubrication will be done on the brass model.  We take multiple photos and list each piece separately on our website.

The consignor is sent a Purchase Order, with a unique number for each consigned piece, to indicate we have received the model and the net proceeds you will receive upon sale.

Website Listing
The website will state that the model is "consigned". If a potential customer becomes interested in the model, the website may be updated to either "hold through ...." with a date, or sold.

Consignment Term
We require the model remain on consignment for a minimum period of 3 months with us. If the consignor wishes to take the model back within this time period, the full 20% commission fees are payable to us.

Consignment Fee
Our consignment terms are lower than the typical brass dealers at 25% or more.   For brass models, we charge a 20% commission on the selling price, with a minimum of $35US/$40Cad.   We do not consign plastic models.

Proceeds of the Sale
We also need to know from you if the proceeds are to be kept on account and transferred to your customer account for future purchases, or sent to you in the form of a check.  When the model is sold, we notify you with a Purchase Order, showing the items have been sold.  If you wish to be paid by cheque, it will be issued approximately 30 days after the model is sold.  That is sufficient time for the purchaser to have received the model, inspected it and test run it.  If there are any problems, we would be notified by that point.  We consider that 30 days is sufficient to determine if there is any problem with the model or payment from the purchaser.

We implemented a new computer system over the summer/fall of 2009.  When a model is sold, we create a task for the accounting staff member to issue the cheque 21 days after the model is sold.  This task shows on their computer screen until it is marked completed.  With this new system in place, it ensures that all payments are made on a timely basis.  The cheque is then signed and sent by post to you.  We send you an email at that time letting you know the cheque has been issued with details of the date, and the cheque number, and the amount.  That way you know it is on its way to you.

If you are a Canadian resident, then there is a special benefit for you to leave your funds on account for future purchases.  You will receive a credit for the GST (currently at 5%) and the PST for Ontario residents (currently at 8%).  For example, if your purchase order is $400 for the model, you will also get a credit of $20 for GST and $32 for PST, netting you a total of $452 to be used towards future purchases from CMT.  If as a Canadian you wish to receive a cheque, then you would receive only the $400.

Models Acceptable for Consignment
We accept Overland Models, Coach Yard, Railway Classics, Shoerham Shops, Glacier Park,Van Hobbies, Challenger, Sunset, Division Point, Key, BLI Brass, Toby or PFM/United in mint condition only.  

All models must be tested by the owner before shipping to ensure that they run properly.  In the event that we receive a model which does not run properly and fails our quality assurance test, we will contact the consignor.   We will give an estimate of the time and costs to perform any minor repairs.  Any major repairs will not be done and the model will be returned to the consignor. Brass model repairs will be performed at an hourly rate.

Shipping Models to CMT
If you wish to consign models with us, please email us a listing. For each brass model you wish to consign, please show the manufacturer, model number if available, road name, type of model, paint details, etc. you will be sending and the net proceeds you would like to receive for each consignment.

For shipments from the U.S., on the outside of the box, please put an envelope marked "Invoice enclosed". On a sheet of paper please mark your name and address as the sender, our name as the receiver, the model description, quantity, and the cost price (the value you wish to receive, of the model). Label the invoice and the box 'Model for Consignment'.  Please put this paper inside the envelope. We need this information to consolidate your box with others to bring across the border.

Return of Unsold Models
From past history, an administration fee is rarely charged.  If the model is not sold and returned to the consignor, then our processing fee is $40US$40Cad, which is paid to us before the model is sent back to you.  The processing fee is charged to recoup our time and effort in trying to sell your model.  

Unsold consigned models will be returned to the consignor, at the consignor's request.  The consignor pays for return shipping.
