CMT STAFF - Tom Blake Tomblin, President and Owner

 

Tom started in model trains with an American Flyer S scale train set.  This was a Christmas present when he was 7.  Over the last 45+ years, he has stayed active in the hobby, with a number of train sets built in S, then HO scale.  Tom is a lover of high quality models, either in brass or plastic. 

From high school, Tom attended university at the University of Toronto, then joined a Chartered Accounting firm.  From there, we went into the corporate banking world and climbed the ladder to Assistant Vice-President working in Finance and Information Technology.

Tom became involved with CMT in 1999.  He became the owner in 2002.  Since then CMT has expanded its customer base to become a global supplier of high quality model train products in all scales.

Tom found that as a modeler that there was no one in the industry who could send him specific information about his interests.  Some businesses had generic newsletters that wasted his time.  He decided that he would create a whole new approach to help modellers.  Each person would register with their specific interests and then CMT would notify them anytime something that met their interests was announced.  No spam.  Very specific.  This CMT Newsletter service is free for all modellers who register.  CMT sends out multiple newsletters, every day.

With his knowledge of information technologies, CMT became a leader in the adoption of leading edge communications.  CMT is highly respected by manufacturers and customers for its spam free communication of new product announcements, updates, sales, etc. 

           

            

Tom is active in the local community in education, volunteer and business groups.  CMT is a highly respected member of the Chamber of Commerce.  With over 1200 companies in the Oakville Chamber of Commerce, Tom is one of 20 Ambassadors for the Chamber, volunteering his time and speaking abilities.

In his spare time, Tom loves to sail and race on sailboats.  He has competed locally, regionally, in Canadian National championships, in World Championships and ocean racing.  His last long distance race was the Trans-Atlantic race from Massachusetts, USA to England.  He has raced in Europe and delivered sailboats up and down the east coast of the U.S.
