The assembled kit pictures below (with a blue background) were assembled by
a 17 year old modeller. The wood in the kit was first weathered with
the weathering mix HL-WEA-MIX. Basic tools of a razor saw and cutting
blade were used for cutting the wood as needed. All kits contain full
instructions, showing step by step how to assemble the model. The wood was
glued with yellow carpenters glue. The kits contain nut bolt washers
and scale rod (for the king and queen post bridges). |

81' TRESTLE BRIDGE
This structure is a must for any layout that has a change in elevation.
The design was used all over Canada and the United States, especially in
British Columbia and Ontario. Many are still in existence and some are built
today for temporary short lines. Kit materials are strip basswood, sugar
pine ties (N scale ties are basswood), and Nut/Bolt/Washer castings. The
enclosed step-by-step instructions and full-size templates make completion
of this complicated-looking structure easy. They also explain how to
assemble it on a slight curve, if desired. Give it a try! You will be amazed
at your own workmanship.
Length - 81 scale feet, height - 28 scale feet to bottom of rails.
The ‘S’ scale model looks excellent
for On30.

30' KING POST TRUSS BRIDGE
This neat-looking bridge was used on every railroad in North America. It was
the strongest and cheapest way to span any little stream or ditch. The kit
includes strip basswood, sugar pine ties (N scale ties are basswood),
Nut/Bolt/Washer castings, and actual steel rods. Full-size templates are
enclosed for various clearances: 16' wide for standard NMRA Specs; 14' and
12’ for Narrow Gauge layouts. This design can also be modified for
roadways. Proper size drill bit
included. The ‘S’ scale model’s clearance is excellent for On30.

50' QUEEN POST TRUSS BRIDGE
Canadian railroads were notorious for Queen Post Truss Bridges. They are a
larger version of the King Post, and thus could span a much farther
distance, especially with multiple spans. The kit includes strip basswood,
sugar pine ties (N scale ties are basswood), Nut/Bolt/Washer castings, and
actual steel rods. Full-size templates are enclosed for various clearances:
16' wide for standard NMRA Specs; 14' and 12' for Narrow Gauge layouts. This
design can also be modified for roadways.
Proper size drill bit included. The ‘S’
scale model’s clearance is excellent for On30.

86' HOWE TRUSS
From 1840 to the 1870’s this design was the predominant structure to
use. The design served the railroad industry until the 1930’s. The
instructions are easy and straight forward with full size
drawings/templates. Kit materials are strip basswood, sugar pine ties (N
scale ties are basswood), Nut/Bolt/Washer castings and metal rods including
the proper size drill bit. The ‘S’
scale model’s clearance is excellent for On30.

TIMBER PORTAL
This design was used for tunnels that had problems with falling rocks.
It can be made with or without the front braces, and adds a superb touch to
any layout. All materials are strip basswood and include Nut/Bolt/Washer
castings. Full-size templates are enclosed for various clearances: 16' wide
for standard NMRA Specs; 14' and 12' for Narrow Gauge layouts.
The ‘S’ scale model’s clearance is
excellent for On30. We show pictures as well of the timber portal
paired with the timber retaining wall.

TIMBER RETAINING WALL
This kit contains twice as much strip basswood as is shown. You can build a
big one, or two as per the picture, or many smaller ones. There are four
basic designs in the kit. It’s made to mate with the Portal (left), but
that’s not necessary, as it is an excellent addition anywhere in your
layout.

retaining wall paired with the timber portal.

TIMBER TUNNEL LINER - CPR
The Liner was used to shore back the walls and ceiling of a tunnel. Caveins
were extremely dangerous as well as very costly in mainline down time, thus
a Liner was very cost effective. The prototype for this model is the CPR
Spiral Tunnels in British Columbia. The structure can be built in various
configurations depending on your own layout design. All materials are strip
basswood. The ‘S’ scale model’s
clearance is excellent for On30.

TIMBER SNOWSHED - CPR
One of the unique aspects of mountain railways is a snowshed. It is used to
cover the mainline track where snow and rock avalanches occur. This
structure is typical of most CPR western lines, circa 1938. The design is
based on Mile 24 on the Coquihalla Subdivision. Measurements are 87'
long and about 60' deep, but this is completely flexible. Kit materials are
strip basswood and Nut/Bolt/Washer castings. This kit may take a while to
assemble, but it is well worth it.
