Early Amtrak TurboTrains operated in 3 car and 5 car configuration.  In 1972, the Department of Transportation increased Amtrak's TurboTrains to 5 cars each. To make a complete Amtrak TurboTrain, you will need one of each product 200003, 200301 and 200302. The car numbers are accurate for this 5-car train.

Our extra Intermediate Cars have the correct window arrangements and interiors for the additional cars added in 1972. They are different from the TurboCafe-Coach included with the TurboTrain.

With the birth of Amtrak in May 1971, the US DOT decided that the ideal way to promote the new national passenger railroad would be to take its newest piece of space-age railroading technology on a cross-country tour. The TurboTrains received a gorgeous new paint scheme – including the brand-new Amtrak logo – and criss-crossed the country on a month-long tour of the USA in July 1971. Thousands of people came out to see it in person. In 1972 the trains were expanded to five cars each.
