True Line Trains has announced a number of features for this model, and pricing information.   

The model announcement states:
- delivery in late 2008
- limited to 1000 pieces, 100 pieces of each number
- a deluxe collectors box
- a numbered brass plate on locomotive and tender (serial number of your model)
- a historical booklet - about 10 pages of information
- accurately detailed with number correct tender and body details (there are literally hundreds of hand applied detail parts to the loco and tender)
- one of three different coal loads (3 different coal loads, roughly 334 of each, randomly inserted one in each tender.  So if you bought 3 of the same loco number, you might get 3 different coal loads)
- real "chuff" action synchronized to the driver rotation, for prototypical sound
- a smoke unit, which is synchronized with the driver rotation.  The smoke unit can be turned on or off
- LED lighting on tender
- Hi/low beam headlight (it will dim when the locomotive is stationary after a fixed amount of seconds)
- factory installed DCC/sound unit, with 2 sound boards, one in the loco and one in the tender
- DC or DCC operation (it can be operated with a standard power pack, or with a DCC system)
- correct driver wheel counterweights (all 4 drivers have different counterweights)
- operating vestibule between the loco and tender
- correct windows on the cab
- multiple cab opening vents on the roof of the cab
- different elesco feedwater heater piping, depending on the road number of the loco
- either high or low smoke stack, depending on the road number of the loco
- the model is a combination of metal and plastic, which increases its weight and pulling power
- more detail than you could possibly think we could squeeze in

There will be only 1 production run of this model, at 1,000 units.  It will not be re-run.  So this is truly a collectors item as well as a fantastic model.

We have seen the plans and some of the CAD pictures for this model.  You could build a real 4-8-4 with these drawings!  The model will be ground-breaking in introducing a number of firsts in the production of a plastic steam engine.  More details will be released in the future. 

If you have been in the hobby long enough, you may remember when Bachman Spectrum introduced its revolutionary 2-8-0.  It had many new features, not thought possible and it won Model of the Year awards.  From what we have seen, this TLT 4-8-4 model may be the next quantum leap in plastic model production.

True Line Trains is massively over-reserved on this model.  We were one of the first dealers to support this project by placing a very large order with TLT. 

The MSRP of this model has been set at $1,199.99.   We have early reservation discount pricing.

The models are one of the most anticipated and prototypical locomotives ever to be brought to the Canadian market in anything other than brass. 

True Line Trains will be keeping the model production run size quite small.  The total production run will be limited to 1,000 pieces, which is 100 pieces of each model.  The run size will not be increased by True Line Trains.


 

VAN HOBBIES CNR U2g PICTURES (for comparative purposes)

The following pictures are from a Van Hobbies brass model of the CNR U2g, that was custom painted to road number 6201.

We can see that the TLT model surpasses the level of detail of this Van Hobbies model, and will run far better. 

These pictures provide an example of what the CNR U2g models looked like.  As you can see from the Vanderbilt tender, this model has the tilted square emblem and it also has the smoke deflectors on the front of the locomotive.
