TRUE LINE TRAINS - 'HO' Scale
TLT have announced, at the NMRA Train Show, that they will be producing the
Canadian National 4-8-4 U2g Northern steam engines. These will have DCC
and sound installed in them. There will be a number of variations, with or
without smoke deflectors, with a number of different CN heralds on the tender
(round herald, square herald). They had advertising signage, at the
Show, of the CN #6218 in their pictures. The models will be run as a very
limited collectors edition, with special features. More details will
follow over the next week or so.

TOWER 55 - 'HO' scale
The following is a message posted on Tower 55's website regarding the CN ES44DC
project.
I have just returned from a
research/ dealer visit trip to parts of both Ontario and
Quebec this past week. After making the announcement
that we would not make the proper cab we have heard from
customers and dealers alike and decided to create the
proper cab detail.
Thanks to our faithful T55 customers for providing their
opinions on this topic. We certainly hope that this
comes as good news and customers can now place their
pre-orders with the expectation of the correct cab with
teardrop windows, ditch lights operating on both ends
and anti-climbers on both ends as well.

TOWER 55 - 'HO' scale
Tower 55 has announced the cancellation of the UP 3 Unit Turbine project.
Below is a copy of the announcement.
Dear
Tower 55 Customers
It is with great regret that we have chosen to cancel the Union Pacific 3-Unit
Gas Turbine project. Quite simply the project cost to create the molds and
accurately detail all turbines is terribly expensive and incredibly complex,
more so than we anticipated when the original announcement was made.
In order to make these powerful locomotives, it requires a number of mold
changed so that we can accurately model the turbines with the proper air
intakes, air horn placements, fuel tank sizes, side ladder placements, tender
types and truck variations. Each mold change equates to tens of thousands
of dollars. It has never been our intention to simply create one basic
model and then apply 30 different numbers with no respect to detail variations.
That logic greatly deviated from our modeling philosophy.
Our desire is simply not to drag this project along for a number of years and
have folks asking when it will ever be produced. We remain hopeful that we
can revive this project sometime in the future. However we cannot afford
to make this sizeable investment at this day and time with the uncertainty of
today's market, high oil prices, and fluctuating foreign exchange rates.
We believe it is in all our best interests to cancel this project now.
We hope and trust you, our valued customers, understand our decision. Our
Tower 55 line is providing to be a successful venture for us and we hope to
produce many more accurately detailed molds to the market place.

SUNSET - 'O' scale
Sunset Model has announced a new Canadian Pacific locomotive due out in late
2006. They will be producing the K-1a 4-8-4. Features Include
Huge Pittman Motor "Quiet Drive", All Brass Construction, and
a Fully Detailed Cab Interior. The Canadian Pacific Railway had only
two Northerns which were built in 1928 in its Angus Shops in Montreal. These
4-8-4s, built with 75" drivers, were designed as dual-purpose locomotives.
However, they were used continuously for 25 years on night passenger trains
between Toronto and Montreal. The pair carried road numbers 3100 and 3101.

DIVISION POINT - 'HO' scale
Division Point will be producing a run of American Road C-Liners. In 1948
and 1949 a small group Fairbanks-Morse engineers in a leased office in Chicago
churned out the design for a new cab unit diesel. The concept involved a standardized
carbody with options galore based on standard units, hence the
"Consolidation Line" name. Choices included fuel tank size, truck
arrangement, steam generator, and engine options. "Consolidation Line"
quickly became "C-Liners"

This Division Point subsidiary will be dedicated to the production of Canadian
prototypes. I have met some exciting new contacts "North of the
Border" and I am anxious to work with them on a Canadian Program of
prototypes. Some of the engines on the drawing board at present are the CP D-10
in Eastern Coal, and Western Oil versions, A CN 4-6-2 in Coal, Algoma Central
Mikado, and several smaller steam engines to be announced. I am going to produce
the 1939 "Royal (Blue) Train" with both the CP and CN cars involved,
and a caboose or two. Stay tuned for more great announcements in the weeks
ahead.

TOWER 55 - 'HO' scale
We have returned from Milwaukee's Trainfest where the new factory painted TOWER
55 models, with DCC and Sound, were on display. These are awesome models
and generated a huge interest at the show. The sound was recorded from the
prototype locomotives. We have added a number of photos of some of the Tower

will be produced. These models will be produced by True Line Trains which is a
new line from Hobbycraft Canada, using the same factory and quality as Life Like

3rd Rail has announced a new Canadian project. They will be producing a
run of Canadian Pacific T-1 2-10-4 Selkirks with a 12,000 gallon tender.
These later T 1's were semi streamlined and were painted with CPR tuscan
red panels along their running boards and on the tender sides with gold leaf
border trim. Features include all brass construction, EOB speed
control (3R), 054 track operation (3R), TMCC /Railsounds (3R) and a fully

KATO - 'N' scale
Kato has announced they will be producing two Amtrak 4-car passenger sets.
Amtrak currently operates Superliner 1 and Superliner 2 cars. Delivery of the
original Superliner 1 cars began in 1979 with the first cars operating on short
runs originating in Seattle and Chicago. As more cars arrived, entire Superliner
trainsets replaced trains on existing Western routes. The height of a Superliner
generally precludes its operating in the Northeast because of tunnel clearance
concerns. Kato's models are based on the five Superliner 1 car types. They are:

PROTO 2000 - 'HO' scale
We will be producing customized 0-8-0's, in various Canadian and U.S. roadnames
or your own custom road! As noted below Life Like will be producing a run
of USRA 0-8-0 U.S. road steam locomotives. You can choose from QSI
sound and DCC, or a second version without DCC and sound.
These will be customized from the Undecorated
versions. For Canadian roads, we will do Canadian National and
Canadian Pacific, and others as requested. Road names and road numbers
will be done, based on your selection of road name, even custom roadnames!
Weathering can also be done on these models. The prices of the 0-8-0's
will be announced later, as the details are announced. These models are
scheduled for a September release.

Truss Bridge near Rock Island, WA. This model will be available factory
painted black. A $500 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit is required

DIVISION POINT - 'HO' scale
Division Point has announced a new project. They will be producing
Milwaukee Rd. Diesel Electric Motor Cars.
Two of the more interesting diesel units owned by the Milwaukee were the two
home-built 1000 HP units #5900 and #5901. Officially called "Diesel
Electric Motor Cars" and out shopped in 1948, the units picked up the name
"Bulldogs" because of their distinctively blunt noses. Powered by a GM
12-567-A driving through the front truck only, the units were built to replace
aging steam power in light passenger service. Capable of 75 mph and 24,000 lbs.
TE., the units were half engine and half baggage car, and were capable of
pulling several passenger cars in small commuter train fashion. The Division
Point will offer both models with slightly different appliances, and in
the 2 paint schemes given them by the Milwaukee. A very small serial numbered
run is planned, so get your order in to your dealer as soon as possible to avoid
disappointment. Retail price to be announced.

An A-B-A consist of CB&Q F3 locomotives,
in silver bodies with black nose stripes and lettering, was on the point of the
California Zephyr when it pulled out of Chicago on its inaugural westbound run,
March 21, 1949.
The CB&Q locomotives had a
"passenger" pilot and lacked dynamic brakes because of the
Burlington's relatively flat route.
The California Zephyr. The name alone is
instantly recognized as one of the most famous passenger trains in the history
of North American railroading.
Said to be a "cruise train," the
California Zephyr initiated service on March 20, 1949, heading eastbound to
Chicago. In the first years, the CZ, as it came to be known, was the main
transportation between Chicago and San Francisco, covering the 2,532 miles in
just over two days, traveling "the scenic way across America." The
scheduling of the CZ purposefully put it in the magnificent landscape of the
Rocky Mountains and Feather River during daylight hours, much to the delight of
passengers. With its breathtaking scenery outside and excellent service inside,
the CZ was "the most talked about train in the country."
The CZ was jointly operated by three
railroads. The Chicago Burlington & Quincy handled the train between Chicago
and Denver. The Denver & Rio Grande Western operated the middle portion of
the route, between Denver and Salt Lake City, and the Western Pacific carried
the train between Salt Lake City and San Francisco. Each of these railroads
contributed specifically lettered cars for the make-up of the train. Because of
its silver stainless-steel body, all of the cars of the CZ were given a name
characteristic to the western territory it traversed with a "silver"
preface.
EMD F3 locomotives from all three railroads,
as well as by Alco PA and PB locomotives on the D&RGW, supplied the power
for the CZ. The CB&Q operated their F3’s in an A-B-A lash-up, while the WP
utilized a A-B-B configuration. Needing additional power through the mountains,
the D&RGW utilized the F3’s in an A-B-B-A combination and the ALCo’s in
an A-B-A arrangement.
Although the equipment used would change over
the years due to ridership volume and service needs, the CB&Q-D&RGW-WP
California Zephyr operated until March 22, 1970, a remarkable 21 years of
service!

The General Motors Locomotive Group (GMLG)
Electro-Motive Division (EMD) SD70MAC is one of the most common locomotives
plying the rails today. Originally introduced in late 1993 with an order for the
Burlington Northern, the production now totals over 900 units, exceeding the
combined production of the SD80MAC and SD90MAC locomotives by over 300 units.
Designed to be a solid locomotive to upgrade
the Burlington Northern fleet, the SD70MAC has its origins in the SD60MAC design
demonstrated on the BN.
At this time, the SD70MAC, in all of its
versions, has been operated by six different railroads in a total of eight
different paint schemes. The railroads that operate this locomotive span from
East to West and from Mexico to Alaska! The locomotives are used to haul all
kinds of freight, and even passenger trains (Alaska Railroad). For comparison,
the SD80MAC has been operated in three paint schemes and the SD90MAC has been

ATLAS - ''N' scale
We have added pictures of the new Atlas N scale 2-6-0 Mogul steam locomotives
due out in May. The earliest versions of the 2-6-0 Mogul steam locomotives
were built in 1863 by the Rogers Locomotive Works in Paterson, NJ. The design
was an improvement on the then standard 4-4-0 wheel arrangement. In theory, the
2-6-0s extra set of driving wheels offered a 50% increase in tractive effort
over the older design. It is estimated that well over 11,000 Mogul-type locos
were built for the next 50-plus years. Like the 4-4-0 American-type locomotive
that it was designed to replace, the 2-6-0 was a general-purpose steam
locomotive that was found in both freight and passenger service. Click on

KATO - 'N' scale
Kato has announced a run of N-scale Streamliner
Sets. "Streamliners" were
operated by Union Pacific, Chicago & North Western, and Southern Pacific
with some equipment "pooling" with Wabash and other railroads. The
most famous trains were the City of Los Angeles and the City of San Francisco,
departing from Chicago, IL for the West. Additional trains were known as the
City of Portland and the City of St. Louis. The
biggest partners, UP and C&NW, advertised "Route of the
Streamliners" on their box cars. In essence, each of the partner railroads
"owned" portions of the train; they were true partners, not simply
connecting railroads. Today, these trains remain among the best remembered
of all postwar lightweight passenger trains. Even today, the Union Pacific
Historic Fleet, used for company business as well as special excursions,
continues the long tradition of yellow and gray passenger trains.

RAILWAY CLASSICS - 'HO' scale
Railway Classics has announced they will be producing "The Canadian"
in Canadian
Pacific and Via
Rail. "The Canadian" was introduced in
April, 1955 by the Canadian Pacific, incorporating the latest in railroad
technology. Built by Budd in the likeness of the famed California Zephyr, with
fluted stainless steel and domes, the 172 cars ordered cost a mere $40 million!
In 1968, these cars were painted in the CP Rail Action Red paint scheme and
multimark. In 1977-78, mainline passenger rail service in Canada was taken over
by the newly created Crown Corporation VIA Rail, and "The Canadian"
was painted in a new livery. VIA's stainless steel fleet was refurbished and
equipped for HEP operation between 1989 and 1994 and sported a larger VIA logo,
small Canadian Flag and a new numbering system. 1999 saw another livery
modification with the addition of "waving" Canadian flags and a large,
white Government of Canada logo in the fluting along the side of each car.
Railway Classics is pleased to offer this elegant train in all four versions,
incorporating Ajin's pressed-fluted sides, correct, free-rolling trucks, working
diaphragms, complete interiors including dome seating, and Kadee® couplers.
Purchase of all three 1955 sets will provide all the cars necessary for a
complete, "normal" consist of "The Canadian." Purchase of
both sets in the -69, -78, -99 eras will provide all the cars necessary for a,
"normal" consist of the "Canadian" and extra Chateau and
Manor cars in this era are available. For each 8-car set in all four eras, we
will be offering an A and a B set with different car names and numbers so that
two completely different trains may be obtained. The add-on sets will have A, B,
and C sets.

DIVISION POINT - 'HO' scale
Division Point has announced a new project. They will be producing the
D&RGW and Southern Pacific Krauss-Kaffei ML4000.
BRUTE STRENGTH!
Thats what the Southern Pacific was looking for in the early 1960s. The SP found
it in Europe in the Krauss-Maffei ML4000. The 4,000-hp ML4000 was powered by
high-revving Maybach diesel engines, driving one axle in each truck throught
torque-converter hydraulic transmissions. All axles on the truck were greared
together, in theory reducing wheel slippage.
Not wanting to eat the entire cost of "proofing"
the "hydro"s, the SP shared an order of six units with the Rio Grande.
Delivered in 1961, three went to the SP (#9021-9023), and three to the Grande
(#4001-4003). Delivered with hydraulic M-U connections, in short order both
roads changed to electric M-U connections. Initially, all the units suffered
from "breathing" problems in tunnels, due to the topside air intakes.
Again, both roads modified the ML4000s by internal ducting of intake air from
truck height. This required relocation of the air tanks to the top of the engine
cowling. (As an interesting sidelight, the D&RGW applied temporay plywood
ducts on the outside of the engine hood.)
Surprisingly, it turned out that the ML4000s were prone to
slippage and had significant problems with maintenance, and by 1964 the Grande
had had enough. Their units were sold to the SP. The initial K-Ms had a
cab-type/"bulldog" nose while later models came with the more
diesel-typical hood nose. We are limiting our offerings to the initial order of
cab-nose ML4000s.
As usual, the Division Point will
offer a limited number of these interesting units. Expect the usual smooth
running and attention to detail, and make your reservations known to your Division

KATO - 'HO' scale
Kato has announced they will producing a run of F40PH for Amtrak
and Chicago
RTA.
The EMD F40PH is synonymous with the Amtrak
era of American passenger trains. Although it has been retired from Amtrak
service, it operated for over 20 years. It continues to be the motive power for
commuter railroads all over the United States. Over 400 F40PH locomotives have
been manufactured by EMD in various configurations.
The F40PH went through some external
changes during its production life and each railroad tended to order a custom
package of headlights, horns, and other equipment that modelers call
"details". Even Amtrak's several orders had multiple detail
variations. The versions we have selected for this production represent
locomotives equipped with radiator "Q-Fans" - a version never before
offered.
Second only to Amtrak's now-retired fleet,
Chicago's Regional Transportation Authority (now known as Metra), owns the
largest number of F40PH locomotives. Replacing aged E and F units, these light
blue locomotives could be seen pulling Chicago & North Western Bi-Level
commuter cars for several years as the passenger car fleet was gradually
repainted in RTA colors.

KATO - 'N' scale
Kato has announced they will be producing an N scale Western Pacific F3A/F3B Set
plus a single F3B unit. The Western Pacific
Railroad operated the westernmost leg of the California Zephyr's route. At the
head-end of the CZ for the WP was an A-B-B consist of EMD F3 diesel locomotives.
This new production delivers a supply of A+B
2-unit sets, as well as a single B-unit, for hobbyists to recreate the accurate
A-B-B lash-up used by the WP with the CZ.
